These Pentagon Buildings were constructed 1819-1822 to house US troops. Used as a garrison from 1822-1877 except 1861-1862 when held be Confederates. From 1886-1925 these buildings and grounds were the site of Louisiana State University.Zachary Taylor, our 12th president 1849-1850 lived near this marker in Baton Rouge.
